Life & Cost of Living
Life in Ireland

What It's Like
to Live Here

Ireland is one of the most welcoming countries in the world for international students. The people are famously friendly (the Irish are known for their warmth and humour), the country is safe, and there's a thriving community of Malaysian and Asian students already here.

Cities like Dublin, Galway, Cork, and Limerick each have their own unique character, from cosmopolitan city life to charming coastal towns. You'll never run out of things to explore.

Asian Food & Malaysian Community

Dublin has a growing selection of Asian supermarkets, halal restaurants, and a strong Malaysian student network. You won't feel alone.

Public Transport

Good bus and rail networks in Dublin. Student Leap Cards offer discounted fares across the city and beyond.

Healthcare Access

International students can access Ireland's public health system (HSE). Many universities also have on-campus student health services.

Travel & Exploration

Weekend trips to the Cliffs of Moher, the Ring of Kerry, or a Ryanair flight to Paris for €30. Ireland is a brilliant base for exploring Europe.

Cost of Living Estimates

Student Accommodation (Dublin) €800–€1,200/mo
Shared House / HMO €500–€800/mo
Monthly Groceries €150–€250/mo
Monthly Transport €50–€80/mo
Eating Out (casual) €10–€18/meal
Mobile Plan €15–€25/mo
Total Monthly Est. €800–€1,500/mo
Part-Time Work Rights

International students can work up to 20 hours/week during term time and 40 hours/week during holidays, helping offset living costs while gaining valuable work experience.

SPM, IGCSE and IB MYP graduates are eligible for all foundation programmes in Ireland. Choose the route that fits your situation.

SPM Graduates
IGCSE O-Level Graduates
IB MYP Graduates

These qualifications are accepted for all foundation programmes in Ireland.

Single-University Foundations

Foundation programmes at TCD, DCU, DkIT, TUD, TUS, UCD and UL grant guaranteed progression only to that same university's own undergraduate programmes (e.g. a UCD foundation leads to UCD only). Cross-applying to other Irish universities is possible in rare cases, but it is not advised or guaranteed.

OnCampus & Griffith College

OnCampus grants access to UL, UCC, Maynooth, DCU, SETU, TUS, MTU, NCI and University of Galway. Griffith College grants access to UL, UCC, SETU, MTU and Griffith College itself. The exact options depend on your foundation track and grades — as above, applying outside this list is possible in rare cases but not advised or guaranteed.

Route 02
Malaysian Foundation or Diploma

Already hold a foundation or diploma from a Malaysian institution? You may be eligible for direct entry into an Irish undergraduate programme without repeating a foundation year.

Direct Entry to Undergraduate

A recognised Malaysian foundation or diploma qualifies you to apply directly to an Irish undergraduate programme. The specific year of entry (Year 1 or Year 2) depends on the receiving institution and how closely your qualification matches the degree subject.

Entry Year Varies by Institution

Each Irish university sets its own credit recognition policy. Contact us and we will confirm which year you can enter and which programmes accept your Malaysian qualification.
